Loren was born on April 30, 1944 in Red Wing, Minnesota, the youngest of three boys. His parents, Eugene and Mildred (Amundson), raised Duane, James and Loren on a farm. Loren loved everything about farming and was passionate about sports, hunting and fishing. Loren played football, basketball, and baseball. He led his teams as captain and was the youngest player on the varsity basketball team. One of his many accomplishments was pitching a no-hitter when he played for the Lake City American Legion baseball team.  The newspaper called it “Brusehaver’s masterpiece”.

After he graduated in 1962, he moved to Minneapolis, worked at Canada Dry and played intra-mural basketball at the U of M. On November 26, 1966, Loren married the love of his life, Diana Latcham, of Red Wing. He worked at Schwan’s (still his favorite ice cream) for a few years, then started his career at Plastics, Inc in 1968. Plastics was acquired by Anchor Hocking and the building was sold to make room for the current science museum. He was eventually forced into early retirement and drove for Enterprise in “retirement” until 2017.

Loren and Diana settled in Inver Grove Heights where they raised their three daughters, Tammy, Cathy and Angie. Loren was a man of faith, (starting his current congregation in an elementary school gym), who adored his family and always had a smile for everyone.

His sports passion continued as he strived to attend notable sporting milestones such as the last game at Met Stadium, first game at the Metrodome, etc. He always hoped for the Vikings to win a Superbowl. Golf evolved into his sport of choice. He also has many fond memories of playing softball, hunting and fishing.

Loren was diagnosed with stage four Prostate cancer in 2014. Loren was never one to shy away from competition and battled cancer more fiercely than any other opponent he faced and always with an impressive attitude. He felt a cure was near and was hopeful that he would be here for it. He cherished time with family and one of the first things he did after his diagnosis was to buy a pontoon, where many special times were shared together fishing and having fun on the water. He enjoyed vacationing at Gull Lake and Myrtle Beach. The cancer was relentless and Loren’s positive outlook helped sustain more tests, treatments and the ongoing battle. Regardless of his constant pain or how disheartening the latest update was, he always said thank you to whoever was there helping him.

Thank you to everyone who took time to visit him. He cherished those visits more than you know. There was nothing better to him than visiting and spending time with people.

Now at home in heaven, Loren is incredibly missed and lives on in the hearts of his amazing caregiver and loving wife, Diana, daughters Tammy (Lane) Derby, Cathy (Tim) Folkerts, Angie (Tom) Bauer, grandchildren Katelyn & Alyssa Derby, Harry (Abbie) & Mitchell Houck, Emily & Max Bauer, Sam, Aaron (Kristina) & Jamie Folkerts, great granddaughter Avery Linke, brother James (Linda) Brusehaver, sister-in-law Siri Brusehaver, nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends.  Loren was preceded in death by his parents and brother Duane.

Loren’s family is grateful to everyone for your love, prayers, and friendship. We thank you for your support and encouragement during his illness. For those that visited him, we thank you again.

Funeral Service will be Thursday, July 15th at 11:00 am at with visitation from 10:00-11:00 at Shepherd of the Hills Church, 7070 Bovey Ave, Inver Grove Heights, MN.

“I’m gonna love you forever and ever,

Forever and ever, amen.”
