Donna Jean Aszmann of Cromwell, MN and Fort Meade, FL, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020, at the age of 84 from complications of a stroke. She was born in St. Paul, MN, on August 8, 1936 to Nicolas and Eunice Kasel. She will always be missed, remembered, and loved by her husband of 64 years Kenneth; children Deborah (Michael) Widstrom, Robert Aszmann, Janine Aszmann, Patrick (Paula) Aszmann, Anthony (Kelle) Aszmann; nine grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Also survived by her loving sister Diane (Gerald) Meszaros; sisters-in-law Carol Alvorson and Linda (Roger) Reid and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Donna grew up in South St. Paul where she met the love of her life, Kenneth. They were married on October 6, 1956. After Kenneth’s stint in the Navy while stationed in Norfolk, VA, they briefly returned to South St. Paul before moving their young family to Eagan, MN, where they resided until retiring to Cromwell and Fort Meade in 1997.
Donna loved cooking and baking, gardening and canning, and passed those passions and skills on to the next generations. She made sure her granddaughters knew “how much salt to put in the crock of sauerkraut.” Her main focus in life were her husband and family and therefore loved and enjoyed the many, many family gatherings that were held over the years. She would sit with a big smile on her face and watch the chaos unfold around her as only a large family can produce. Bingo and golfing were favorite pastimes because they were spent with family and friends. Most that met her, loved her as she almost never had a cross word for anyone. She was the rock that the family leaned on and the glue that kept them together. We will remember her forever for her quiet gentleness and loving spirit.
A family visitation will be held from 12 noon to 1pm with service following at 1 pm on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Roberts Funeral Home, 8108 Barbara Ave., Inver Grove Heights, MN. Due to COVID restrictions and concerns for the health and safety of family and friends, please know that attendance while welcome, is unnecessary, though thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated. Private interment at Acacia Park Cemetery in Mendota Heights, MN.
