Passed Away on March 13, 2017, 2016.  Age 96 of South St. Paul

Another member of the “Greatest Generation” has quietly slipped away with family at his side on Jan. 21st after a brief illness. Preceded in death by wife, Viola; infant daughter, Mary Joan; son-in-law, Jack Groebner. Survived by daughters, Barbara Groebner, Mary Beth Braun, Georganne Behn (Mark) and son, David (Wendy); grandchildren, Mary Carter (Bob), Jane Burrows (Bob), Dan Groebner (Jordan), Jennifer Behn Wall, Liz Badger, Anne Behn, Addie and Connie Braun; great-grandchildren, Samantha, Ryan, Olivia, Ave, and Theis. George served in WWII as a crew member on a B-24 “Liberator.” He flew with the “Pyramidiers,” a unit of the 98th bomb group and was stationed in North Africa and the Middle East. He was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross. Upon returning home he became the proprietor of Rogowski Clothing on old Concord St. in So. St. Paul. He greatly enjoyed the tales and banter of his customers, most of whom worked in the stockyards or in the thriving meat packing industry. George loved the music of the big bands, the romantic orchestrations of Andre Rieu and even at the age of 96 enjoyed Lady Gaga. Go figure! Well-read, self-deprecating, witty and introspective, he will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. There will be a private service and interment at Acacia Cemetery Jan. 25th at 11 a.m.
