Age 78 of Inver Grove Heights, formerly of Shoreview.

Roger Allan Hickman, 78, was ushered home into the loving arms of his Father on Friday, May 28, 2021.  While he will be missed by many, we are comforted by Jesus’ own words, “I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” John 11:25.

Roger was a faithful man who loved the Lord, his family, church and community.  He was born in Warren, MN on May 19, 1943.  He grew up on a farm in northern MN, attended country school, and graduated from Warren H.S. in 1961. He participated in many high school activities and especially loved competing on the basketball, track, and golf teams. He later picked up tennis and it became a life-long sport for the entire Hickman family. He studied elementary education at Moorhead State University and graduated in 1965.

Roger was a loving teacher and mentor to numerous 6th grade students in the St. Paul Public School District and faithfully served for 34 years.  Not an idle man, he retired for a month and began part time work at Enterprise Rent-a-Car for the next 20 years. He loved a clean, detailed car, and always took great care of all which God had blessed him.

On June 27, 1970, Roger married the love of his life, Connie Velde at Granite Falls Lutheran Church in southwestern, MN.  They began their life together in Mounds View, MN.  Shortly after, they moved to Shoreview for almost forty years, where they began their family and were blessed with three children.  Almost ten years ago, they moved to Inver Grove Heights to be closer to all 10 grandchildren. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage.

An avid fan of every college and professional sports team in Minnesota, Roger thoroughly enjoyed watching and cheering for his teams.  He loved encouraging his children and grandchildren in all of their sporting endeavors as well.  Always willing to lend a helping hand, Roger found joy in the little things. Serving on various committees and volunteering, he was a man who did not desire to be in the limelight.  He gave of his time, talents, and treasures to loved ones and strangers alike.

Roger was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Helen and brother Warren.  He is survived by his loving wife Connie; son, Joel (Heather) children: Caleb, Samuel and Thaddeus, daughter Kady (Karl) Monson children: Faith, Asher, Noah, Bethany and Grace; daughter Suzie (Paul) Heideman children: Paige and Grant; sister, Karen Larson; nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved relatives.
