Joyce was born August 11, 1933, in Sarona, WI. She grew up in Eau Claire, WI and graduated from Eau Claire High School. She met her husband of 61 years, Hanley Anderson in Eau Claire and they married on December 23, 1950. They moved around a bit, had their first child, Sanny, while in Indiana where Hanley was stationed in the service. They moved back to Eau Claire and welcomed 3 more children into their family daughters LouWanna (Lou), Kaylene (Kitty) and son Robin. They eventually moved to Inver Grove Heights where they welcomed 2 more daughters to their family, Bambi and Charmaine (Cupie).

Joyce was a very creative person and enjoyed everything crafty. Over the years she started 3 different yarn shops, she created patterns and published many knitting and crocheting books. She presented and taught knitting and crocheting at numerous seminars throughout the country. She loved teaching knitting and crocheting both by hand and by machine. She also made shadow boxes, doll houses and relished in the world of miniatures to fill her shadow boxes and doll houses. She loved the color purple, and she became known as Purple Joyce and Purple Grandma. Her last knit shop was the Purple Cellar which was in the basement of their home. Almost everything she had was purple, even her house known by all as the “Purple Palace”. Joyce was devoted to her faith, her family, to her business, to her customers and to people in general. She was always there to help anyone with anything and made their home open to all. She loved to talk and spend time with everyone telling them many stories of her life, her 6 kids, 23 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren, 2 great- great grandchildren and her family.
