Charlie was born to Charles and Elizabeth Nelson on October 4, 1922, in South Bend, MN.  He graduated from Mankato High School in 1942 and became a Naval aviator in the Marine Corp in 1943.  He married Shirley Ann Swensen in 1948, and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1950.  Charlie was employed by Thompson Lands and Federal Land Bank in Windom, and the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service at the USDA in St. Paul. Charlie served as a Boy Scout Master, a Sunday School teacher at the Methodist Church and on the hospital board in Windom.  He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, sailing and sports.  He enjoyed establishing a conservation acreage area on his farm near Garden City after retiring. He is survived by children, Ann and Bill, his sister, Susan Nelson Pollack and husband, and nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Red Cross.
