Hanson, John Richard
Age 94
Entered eternal rest on Sept 8, 2023. He was long time employee of Waterous Co in South St. Paul. John was extremely proud of his service as a USMC sergeant stationed at a Marine air base during the Korean War. He loved traveling across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. He cherished his family and was a stellar role model to all who knew him. He was a 58-year member of St. Pascal Baylon Parish, a life member of Arcade-Phalen American Legion Post 0577, Saint Paul, MN and of VFW Post 4127, Homestead, FL.
John was preceded in death by an infant son, a granddaughter, his parents, 6 brothers and 4 sisters. He is survived by loving wife Shirley, son Gregory (Kristine Nogosek) Hanson, daughter Jeanne (Donald) Carlson, 9 grandchildren and 5 greatgrandchildren, sisters Caroline (Raymond) Linder, Vivian Christy, Juleen Jeske, brother Vernon, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Christian Burial Service on Saturday, September 16, 2023, 11:00 AM at Roberts Funeral Home, 8108 Barbara Ave, Inver Grove Heights, MN 55077. Visitation starting at 9:30 AM at the funeral home. Luncheon will follow the Service. Private family burial service with military honors at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights, MN.

Krech, Sharon Ann
Sharon Ann Krech, loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend, age 81, died peacefully on September 11, 2023. Sharon was born April 12, 1942 to Frank and Mabel Pinney in Elgin, Iowa, the youngest of four daughters. She graduated from John Marshall High School in Rochester, Minnesota and went on to attend Macalester College and then graduated from the University of Minnesota. At Macalester she met her best friend and soul mate, Roger Krech, whom she married in 1961. They were happily married for 61 years. She was devoted to Roger and their two sons, Eric (Erin) and John (Jackie); 6 grandchildren, Justin (Kathryn), Collin (Brice), Heather, Sydney, Ethan and Ryan; 7 great-grandchildren, Erica, Carter, Anson, Johanna, Penelope, Mark and Silas. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Jeannette Krech and brother-in-law, Ronald Freiling as well as many dear nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; dear sisters, Patricia, Gerry and Janice.
She loved art, especially painting and drawing and shared this appreciation with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Minnesota Artist Association. Her work can be found in many collections and homes. Sharon was also an avid reader, music lover and gardener, taking great pride in her flower gardens. She was a member of the Minnesota State Horticulture Society and the University of Minnesota Alumni Association. She enjoyed many years of travelling with Roger while collecting art and antiques from across the country. She especially loved the North Shore, the Florida beaches and the desert area around Scottsdale, Arizona. For many years, she joined her friends every Friday for lunch and ‘treasure hunting’. She had great compassion and kindness for animals and supported their causes. Most of all, she was devoted to her family and friends and especially loved the Holidays and Birthdays by sharing her special Spritz cookies and caramels. Her greatest wish for her children and grandchildren was that they would be happy in their lives.
All are welcome to celebrate Sharon’s life from 3-6 pm on Saturday, September 16th, at Roberts Funeral Home, 8108 Barbara Ave., Inver Grove Heights. In remembrance, her wish would be to have a flower planted or to have a pet adopted in her memory. Donations can be made to the Animal Humane Society, the Cancer Society, the Minnesota Horticulture Society, or the ALS Foundation.
Torgerson, Marlys May
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Marlys May (Bekke) Torgerson on September 10, 2023, who passed away at the age of 94.
She was predeceased by her parents Martin and Magda (Stubskin) Bekke; husband Clayton Torgerson; sister Doris Anderson; brothers Kermitt, Nolan, and Walter Bekke.
She is survived by, sons, Peter Torgerson (Pamela) of Washington Court House, OH, and Paul Torgerson (Sandra) of Rush City, MN; grandchildren, Eric Torgerson (Amanda) of Columbus OH, Andrea Hark (James) of Dublin OH, and Andrew Torgerson (Kimberly) of Eau Claire WI; great grandchildren, Blaise and Jude Torgerson, James and Jaxon Hark, and Cole and Finn Torgerson; sister, Shirley Johnson (Calvin) and sister-in-laws Nancy Bekke (Nolan) and Sandra Torgerson (Donald) and brother-in-law, Dewey Anderson (Doris). She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Marlys was born on May 11, 1929 in Vining MN. She grew up on a farm where Norwegian was spoken in the home. When she began school in Vining she only knew Norwegian, but quickly learned English. She graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1947 and St. Cloud Business College in 1948. Prior to marriage she worked at Otter Tail Power in Fergus Falls. She married Clayton Torgerson May 28, 1950. Following marriage, she worked at Dakota National Bank in Fargo and at a photo studio near Fort Rucker, AL where Clayton was in training prior to leaving for Korea. After his discharge from the Army, in 1952 Clayton and Marlys moved to Staples MN where Clayton started his chiropractic practice and she worked as a bookkeeper for Peterson Biddick Feed and Seed. After the birth of their first son Peter in 1953 they moved to Ada MN where Clayton continued his chiropractic practice and Marlys worked as the legal secretary for the Norman County Attorney for many years. She later worked as a Deputy Norman County Court Administrator. In 1985 Marlys and Clayton moved to Fergus Falls where she served as Chief Deputy Court Administrator, Civil Division for Otter Tail County. Upon her retirement from Otter Tail County in 1992, Marlys and Clayton moved to Inver Grove Heights to live closer to son Paul and his family. Following Clayton’s death she moved to Timber Hills Presbyterian Home in 2009. In 2022 she moved to Encore in North Branch.
Marlys was a loving mother and excellent homemaker. She was known for her sandbakkels, toffee bars and meatballs. She was a hard worker both at home and at the office. For a number of years, she was required to be the primary provider for the family as her husband was blinded by macular degeneration. She took only one-week maternity leave from the County Attorney’s Office following the birth of her second son in 1959.
She was active in church wherever she lived, most recently Good Shepherd Lutheran in Inver Grove Heights. For their annual Scandinavian dinners she made hundreds of sandbakkels for several years. She volunteered at Meals on Wheels and also helped neighbors whenever needed.
While she will be missed so very much by all that loved her, they rejoice that she was able to live a long and fulfilling life, and that she is now reunited with Clayton and other family and friends in Heaven.
Memorial Service 11:00 am Monday, September 18th, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7600 Cahill Ave., Inver Grove Heights, and will be livestreamed at https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/5090836464. Yaeger, George P., Jr.
Age 84 of South St. Paul
Died peacefully at home with family on August 25, 2023. George was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on a Gato-class submarine, the USS Rasher. Preceded in death by beloved wife, Gerry; survived by children Kelly (Bruce) Kayser and Steve (Sara) Yaeger; grandchildren Carl, Samuel, Julia, Hannah, and Matthew. George’s faith sustained him to the very end of his days. “Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of eternal life, to which you were called and about which you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” 1Timothy 6:12. We are grateful to the team at LX Medical, especially James and Paige, who went above and beyond to support our family on this journey. Also, a special thank you to caregivers Kristine, Marilee, Kira, and grandson Sam for their kindness and flexibility. A private graveside service was held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on August 31, 2023.
Haugland, Dennis
Dennis passed away unexpectedly on September 2 surrounded by family. Beloved husband of Nancy. Devoted father to Katie, Shannon, Lisa (Matt Jasper), Bubba (Katie Fitzer). Big Papa to Dylan, Landon, Cooper, Jake, Lucas, Maxine, and man’s best friend Rocco.
Dennis was raised on the west side of St. Paul. He graduated from Humboldt High School, class of 1971 and continued his education at St. Paul Technical Vocational Institute where he became a lithographer. Dennis worked as a printer/foreman the next 42 years for the same company.
On April 20, 1974, he married his high school sweetheart and their life’s journey began. Dennis devoted his life to his family. As his children were growing up he was very active in West St. Paul youth athletics. He coached girls and boys hockey, ringette, baseball, and was the football commissioner. He enjoyed playing golf, cooking, music, trips to Las Vegas and Laughlin.
For the last 13 years you could find him on his pontoon on Webb Lake surrounded by his wife, kids, grandkids, and his fishing buddies Steve and Jimmy. When he wasn’t fishing Dennis always looked forward to his many conversations with his good friend Vince (Pops).
Dennis had a great impact on his friends and family and will be deeply missed.
A celebration of Dennis’ life will be held Sunday September 17 from 4:30 to 8:00 pm at DeGidios Restaurant and Bar located at 425 7th St W, St Paul, MN 55102.
Lucey, Cindy “Cookie”
Age 66 of Oakdale, formerly of Westside of St Paul.
Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on August 31st, 2023.
Preceded in death by father David Zapata, mother Caroline Contreras, step father Tito Ortiz, sister Delores Zapata, father in law Jerry Lucey and sister in law Lori Stafki.
Survived by beloved husband Jim Lucey, children Matthew Lucey (Logan), Jessica (Jesse) Bosquez, Patrick Collins Jr, Angela Collins, grandchildren Patrick III and Jordan Collins, siblings Albert Zapata (Marge), David (Jeannie) Zapata, Kathy Dahlen (Michael), Janet (Jeff) Fischbach, mother in law Pat Lucey, in laws Mike (Kaye) Lucey, Kathy (Steve) Drobac, Tim Stafki, Tom (Mary) Lucey, and many, many extended family members and friends
Cindy was a Humboldt graduate of 1975. She enjoyed boating, traveling, quilting, her faith, spending time in many ways with friends and family. She was a long time member of the Society of Our Lady of Guadalupe. She has touched and inspired many lives and one of her greatest joys was helping and caring for others.
She always remained positive, strong and brave while she battled cancer and leukemia. We want to thank all the many doctors and nurses that helped her along the way.
Mass of Christian Burial 11 am, Tuesday, September. 5th at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 401 Concord St., St. Paul. Visitation 10-11 am prior to Mass at church. Interment Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Hts. Luncheon to follow after precession service.

McDonough, Marshall (Mac)
Marshall (Mac) McDonough, 90, of South St Paul, passed away unexpectedly August 30, 2023. He was a beloved, fun- loving husband, father, grandpa & great grandpa. He was liked by all, loved to laugh, enjoyed fishing, playing cards, working on cars, and above all, was so proud of his family. He would have been married to his wife, Mary, 67 years on September 1st. They were devout catholics and spent many hours volunteering to serve others. Mac was always willing to lend a hand to family & friends.
He was greeted in heaven by his loving daughter Theresa, parents Edna & Coleman, in-laws Theresa & Joseph Marthaler and brother in-laws Joseph (Jeanette) & Donald Marthaler.
He will be greatly missed by those who survived him, his wife Mary, children Mary Jo Exley (Tom), Michael McDonough, Tom McDonough (Helen), Karen Brummer (Tim), son in-law Mike Skillrud, grandchildren Jeremy Exley (Jess), Jennifer Exley Smith (Will), Erik (Lia) & Kelsey Skillrud, Alyssa McDonough (Dan), Ashley McDonough Ramsay (Jono), Ella & Coleman Brummer, great grandchildren Alida, Leo, Charlie, Millie, Colette, Franklin, Annabelle & Sophia and in-laws JoAnne Southworth (John) & Raymond Marthaler (Betty).

Salmon, Casey
Casey was born to Robert and Lynn Salmon. She was reunited with her mother Lynn Tisland in heaven on August, 25, 2023. Casey is survived by the only love of her life and best friend of many years, Justin Wheeler and their only son and light of her life, Jaxson Wheeler Casey was Baby sister to Dustin (Samantha), Angela, Kristy (Travis), Jake (Courtney), Kody (Lauren) and big sister to Allie (Travis); Step-siblings, Eric, Casey, and Kyle (Deceased) Tisland.
Casey was cherished and so special to her adoptive parents Mark and Cyndi. Casey’s daily calls to her dad Mark is something that can never be replaced and will be forever missed. Casey loved children and was the best auntie to BrookLynn, Colton and 9 other nephews and nieces. Casey’s dream was to be a pastry chef and open her own bakery someday. Baking was her passion and she was the best. Casey Loved to bake. She loved butterflies, flowers, baby cows, and all Nature. Most of all, she loved her family. Casey also had many friends, second moms, and extended family. Casey will be forever missed and forever loved by all who were blessed to have had her touch their hearts.
A Private Celebration of Casey’s Life will be held in Late September.
Winter, Joseph N.
Age 83, of South St. Paul
Passed away peacefully on August 26, 2023. Survived by loving wife, Mary; daughter, Kathy Winter (Mike); grandchildren, Jake and Nicole; brothers, Julian (Louise) Winter, Peter (Laura) Winter, Mary Lee (Steve) Price, and Lee (Darcy) Winter; also, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Tony Burger; parents; brothers Roman, Harold, DuWayne, Sylvester, and Eugene; sister Claudette; and nephews Tommy and Cole.
Joe had the personality and natural charisma to make friends wherever he went. Never at a loss for words, he enjoyed meeting with friends at local coffee shops and restaurants to reminisce about farm life and his years working at Flint Hills Resources (formerly Koch Refinery). He also enjoyed spending time with family at their cabin in Paynesville, as well as taking frequent road trips. Joe was active in the community, having volunteered for several years at the VFW Post 295 and other local charities.
Joe was a selfless man whose passing will leave an unfillable void in the hearts of his loved ones. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will be forever engrained in all he knew.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at United Hospital in St. Paul for their care and compassion over the last several months.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 31, at the Church of Holy Trinity, 749 6th Ave. So., South St. Paul, with a visitation starting at 9:30 am. Luncheon to follow service.
Private burial at a later date at Oak Hill Cemetery in South St. Paul.

Scott, Austin Michael
It is with saddened and heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a larger-than-life son, grandson, brother and friend, Austin Michael Scott. Heaven gained an amazing angel on August 8th, 2023 after a devastating and untimely accident. Those who were blessed to know Austin will forever miss his beautiful smile, infectious laugh, uncanny humor and genuine heart.
Austin served in the United States Navy as an aviation machinist, ending his promising career too soon, at the age of 29. Austin excelled in anything he put his mind or heart to, and this was no exception, ending his Navy career as an E6. The Navy has been his family for the past 6 years, in addition to his blood, marina and lifelong friends and families.
Hearts are broken and rivers of tears are being shed for an amazing soul taken from us way too soon. But God saw something bigger for our Austin and invited him to join him on his journey into something greater.
Survived by, father, William Scott (Heather Blomker), Amanda E. Rawls Featherston (Mama), Laurie Scott (stepmother), Christian M. Scott (brother), Dakota W. Pelton (brother), Dylan Scott (brother), Cierra G. Mendel (sister), Riley Scott (sister), Rosanne L’Heureux (grandmother), Susie Bobinger McKenzie (Mawmaw), Keith Scott (uncle), Jason D. Hall (uncle), Johnny D. Rawls (Pawpaw), Beth Rawls (Nana), Christopher Rawls (uncle), Lauren Rawls (aunt), Rodney Curlee (uncle), Ryan Curlee (uncle), Reid E. Williams (niece).
