Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on October 16, 2023.
Preceded in death by parents, Marguerite & Carl Carlson; brother, Kenneth Carlson. Survived by husband of 66 years, Wayne; children, Jannette (Rick) Chessnoe, David (Tom Kohls), Barbara (Robert) Lay, Thomas & Eric (Deborah); 5 grandchildren, Cassandra, Rob, Emma, Ava & Owen; 6 ½ great-grandchildren, Joseph, Maxxwell, Vivian, Niko, Silas, Theodore; sisters, Marlys (Jim) Kubik, Nancy Zachrison, Lynne Carlson, Jan (Richard) Smith; brother, Paul (Cheryl) Carlson; also many nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
Carol’s life revolved around her large family and her love of sewing and dolls. She was an expert seamstress with experience using foot pedal to computerized sewing machines and sewing everything from upholstery to clothing to Halloween costumes and historically accurate doll clothing. She was an honored 40-year charter member of “Minnesota Go-Fer Dollies”. She worked for Antie Clare’s doll hospital where she became an expert at doll repair. Eventually she started her own home business Carol’s Country Clinic repairing many new and antique dolls. She volunteered at the Minnesota Historical Society giving input and working on their doll collections. She was a long-time parishioner of Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Inver Grove Heights where she made many of the church’s banners.
Funeral Service 11 am Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7600 Cahill Ave., Inver Grove Heights. Visitation 10-11 am prior to the service at church. Private interment. Memorials preferred to MN Historical Society or American Heart Association.
Schaller, Helen J.
Helen J. (Turkal) Schaller, 99, died peacefully in a family home on October 18, 2023. She was the last surviving sibling of 11 children. Helen was one of the first female nurse anesthetists in the country beginning in the mid-1940’s. She received her “on-the job” training in Detroit, spent a short time in Philadelphia, and then spent most of her career in Milwaukee at Columbia Hospital. Helen’s compassion and dedication as a nurse anesthetist were the cornerstones of her adult life.
After marrying in her early 50’s, she and her husband (Heinz) retired, splitting their time between Bessemer MI and Largo FL. Helen’s final years were spent in MN with many loving family members. Funeral services will be held in MN; burial will take place at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the AANA Foundation (American Association of Nurse Anesthetists), to St. Sebastian Church, Bessemer, or to Starkey Hearing Foundation.
Helen, you have touched thousands of lives – family, friends, patients, and strangers. Your quiet lessons of compassion, resilience, patience, humor, courage, fortitude, and faith will always be a part of us and guide us.

Johnny passed away peacefully on October 18th 2023 surrounded by his family. Preceded in death by parents, Pauline and Michael Loy. Survived by daughters, Melissa (Kevin) Dessart and Lisa (Anthony) Pearson; grandchildren, Paige (Dallas) Dorman, Ethan, Arianna, and Ciara Dessart; great-grandson, Everett Dorman.
Memorial Service 11 am Friday, October 27th, with 10 am visitation at Roberts Funeral Home 8108 Barbara Avenue Inver Grove Heights. Lunch to follow at Veteran’s Memorial Community Center.
Weis, William H. Sr.
William H. Weis, Sr. of Inver Grove Heights and formerly of Faribault, passed away on October 9, 2023, one day short of his 81st birthday.
He was born to Harvey and Helen Weis in Oronoco, MN on October 10, 1942. After graduating from high school in Cannon Falls, Bill entered the Army and proudly served his country in Vietnam. He married Kathy Zappa in 1968 and moved to Faribault where he was a barber for almost 40 years at the Plaza Barbershop. He retired in 2006 and moved to Apple Valley and then to Inver Grove Heights. Through the years he was active in Toastmasters, bowling leagues, softball teams, served as a Scout leader, sang in church choirs, was a member of the American Legion where he served as chaplain, and was a member of several other veteran groups.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, his daughter Barbara (Joe) Schwab and their children Taylor (John) Loos and their son Joseph “JJ”, Adrianna (Ryan) Hoover, Alexandra Schwab and Samantha Schwab; Bill (Amy) Weis Jr. and their son Nicholas; and Brian Weis and his son David. He is also survived by sister Sally Jeffries, brother-in-law Tom (Terri) Zappa and sister-in-law Barbara (Jerry) Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brother David “Torch” Weis; sisters Donna Lindahl (and her husband Marlowe) and Nancy Malloy; brothers-in-law Jeff Jeffries and Fr. James Zappa.
Private services will be held with interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 7, 2023. Preceded in death by parents, Paul and Theresa; brother, Mark (Buddy). Paul owned and operated the Buckboard Saloon in South St. Paul, MN and Winners Bar in St. Paul, MN.

Starks, Gary Walter
Born in Minneapolis, MN on October 13th, 1940. Passed away peacefully at home on October 2nd, 2023, at the age of 82. Preceded in death by parents, Walter Edwin Starks and Evelyn (nee Weeks) Starks; siblings, Bob, David, Ruth and Dennis. Survived by sister, Sharon (Karl) Flick; loving companion, Karen Snow; also many relatives and friends. Gary was the proud owner of Starks Bar & Grill. He was the former owner of the Mirage, Mr. Nibs, The Chatterbox and many more. A Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 noon – 4:00 pm Tuesday, October 10th, 2023 at the Moose Lodge, 5927 in Concord Blvd., Inver Grove Heights, MN 55076.
Lange, Barb
Barb Lange (77) of Inver Grove Heights passed away suddenly on September 30, 2023. Preceded in death by parents Lilly and Steve Burtyk, brother Steve, and daughters Cheryl and Jodi. Survived by her husband Bob, grandson Bobby, her puppy dogs and many loving relatives and friends. Barb is best known for her loving and caring heart. It was very important to her that no one went hungry. She was known as Grandma to many and the hugs were plentiful. Barb was a great hostess and a fabulous cook.
Funeral service at 11am on Saturday, October 7 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (7600 Cahill Ave E, Inver Grove Heights, MN 55076) with visitation one hour prior to service at the church. Luncheon to follow.
Wentkiewicz, Anthony “Tony”
Age 78, of Barnum, MN
Tony Wentkiewicz, age 78, of Barnum, MN passed away peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2023. He went home peacefully ending his long battle with Agent Orange and cancer.
Tony was born to Helen and Stanley Wentkiewicz on May 5, 1945 in Duluth, MN. He served as an Airman First Class in the United States Air Force, including service in Vietnam during 1967-1968 at Nha Trang Airbase. After his military service ended he began his career with the United States Postal Service until retiring in 2000 as the Postmaster at Barnum, MN.
He enjoyed bowing with his wife and family and also coaching junior bowling teams at Skyline Lanes in Hermantown, MN. After his retirement he loved tinkering with old radios and enjoyed being part of the ham radio community. He took great joy in spotting wildlife, from squirrels to bear and deer on his wooded lake acreage. He especially enjoyed fall, looking forward to the ripening of the apples on the trees in the yard. He shared them with family and friends in both their raw form and as delicious desserts.
He is preceded in death by his parents Helen and Stanley Wentkiewicz, wife Sandy Wentkiewicz and brother Joseph Nowakowski.
He is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, Lori Buchman, Alan Wentkiewicz, Heidi (Mark) Sims; grandchildren, Tatianna and Andrew Sims and Logan Buchman; siblings, Don Nowakowski, Kitty (Don) Sinjem, Connie Brown and Cindy Wentkiewicz; brother-in-law Dick (Cathy) Andree; also many nieces, nephews and friends.

Stowell, Warren A.
Age 83, of Inver Grove Heights
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 10, 2023.
Warren was born in Fargo, North Dakota to parents Frank and Frankie Stowell. He grew up in Mankato with his brother Jim and sister Phyllis and graduated from Loyola Catholic High School in 1958. He joined the United States Army, serving three years in the 82nd Airborne Division. Afterwards, he married the love of his life, Rosemary, on December 30, 1961 and they raised their five children in Inver Grove Heights. Warren worked for many years at Vincent Metals, Minneapolis, retiring in 2002. His biggest passions in life, were spending time with his family and friends, golf, the Minnesota Vikings, cards, singing in the church choir, and his epic garage sales. Warren will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Warren is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Rosemary, children, Tammy Lucas (Tim), Traci Radmanovich (John), Kelly Stowell, Scott Stowell (Tere) and Kimberly Nitti (Tony); 19 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; brother James Stowell (Ronnie), sister Phyllis Beer (Truman) and sister-in-law Joan Judge; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Frankie, his in-laws, Ray and Kate, his brothers-in-law Bob and Mike and nephews Dan and Rob.
Funeral Mass, followed by a reception, will be held on Tuesday, October 10th at 11:00 am, with visitation 1 hour prior at St. Stanislaus Church, 398 W. Superior Street, St. Paul. Private Interment Service will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
