Heroff, Jerome “Red”

Our beloved Husband, Dad, Gramps, and friend joined Daughter Christy and Grandson Justin, and all his family in heaven, Sunday August 13, 2023.  He leaves to mourn Pat, his loving Bride of 57 years; and 4 sons, Mark (Shannon), John “Terry” (Corrine), Greg (Jeanette), and David (Linda). His grandkids, Brandon, Brian, Kristin, Mark Jr., Cassie, Jason, Ryan, Alyson, Cailey, Jeff, Brad, Michael, Dan, Shane & Ashley, and 37 great-grandkids.

An evening of remembrance will be Monday 8/21 4-8pm and funeral service Tuesday 8/22 with visitation at 10am and service at 11am. Both visitation and funeral will take place at St. Stanislaus Church-187 S. Western Ave. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery immediately following.  Lunch will be provided upon return to the church.  There will be a streamed Mass on Saturday, 9/2 at 4pm on St. Stans website honoring Red’s entrance into heaven.  Memorials preferred.

Red is a lifelong resident of West 7th Street and proud graduate of Monroe Highschool class of 1954 where he exceled in “hall lunch monitor.”

He was a dedicated employee at Abex Foundry in St. Paul.  He was eventually transferred to Pennsylvania, but it was too far from home for the family, so he gave his notice and moved the family back to West 7th Street where they still reside 44 years later.

Upon returning to Minnesota, he worked for St. Paul Brass for over 30 years where he was never late, never missed a day, and fought snowstorms to get there.  However, he looked forward to his V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N time.

Red liked to spend time at home in his recliner watching TV, especially channel 4.  He was known to pretend he was sleeping even though he was really eavesdropping on every conversation taking place in the house.

In their travels he and his Bride along with great friends went on 3 cruises, spent winter months in Arizona, swam with dolphins, amongst many other activities and destinations.

Red was proud of the booya recipe he developed. All his grandkids told him “No one can make booya like you Gramps.”  His sons have his recipe and his family plans to continue his tradition.

He enjoyed time at the cabin with his kids and grandkids fishing, rides on the pontoon, sitting around the bonfires, and morning swings on the deck with a cup of coffee.  The grandkids got quite a kick out of gramps because there are now a lot of fish swimming around the lake wearing his glasses and watches.  He was sure to be seen wearing cut off jean shorts, a white T-shirt, a bucket hat, and at times rubber boots. Picture that!

He will be missed by all his loving family and friends.  Dad/Gramps was one of a kind!

Carol Ann Coleman (Leopold, Christenson)

August 27, 1933 ~ August 10, 2023

Carol was born on the Eastside of St. Paul, MN, to Walter and Ann Leopold on August 27, 1933. She spent her early childhood living on the Eastside surrounded by relatives and an ethnically diverse community, mostly immigrants from eastern and southern Europe. She had fond memories of her playmates who although having a different language, and culture, would somehow find a way to befriend one another. She liked retelling those stories.

When Carol was eight, her father died due to a construction injury he received while building a neighborhood playground on the Eastside. A few years later, Carol’s mom remarried to Charles Schrodt. Carol referred to him as dad. The family relocated to Newport, MN, where she attended St. Paul Park Senior High.

While living in Newport, she met Everett Christenson. They fell in love and married in 1951. They were together over 30 years until Everett Christenson died of a heart attack in 1984. They had three children, Everett Jr., Anna, and Joy. During the course their marriage they lived in Portsmouth, VA, Newport, West St. Paul, MN, and Inver Grove Heights, MN. Carol made close friends wherever she lived.

In the late 1980s, she remarried Robert Coleman. They were happily married until Robert’s death in 2022.

Carol worked as a cook, waitress, and manager of Mickey’s Diners in St. Paul. She did a cameo performance on Mighty Ducks 1 as a cook at Mickey’s Diner. She loved to talk about the famous people she met while working at Mickey’s Diner. She also had the secret recipe for Mickey’s Diner’s baked beans. She told no one the recipe; not even her family. After 30 years of dedicated service there, the owner gave Carol free meals anytime she wanted. She never took up the offer.

Carol loved to cook; visit family and friends; watch American Idol, America’s Got Talent, and like-minded shows; work in the garden; eat; garage sales; watch movies on the Lifetime network; ice cream and popcorn; Chinese buffets; and to have a good laugh with family and friends. She had a flare for the comic. She is noted for her loyalty to family, her hard work, her generous spirit, her faith in God (she always had a bible near), and her genuine love and acceptance others.

Carol is preceded in death by her father, Walter; her mother, Ann; her stepfather, Charles; her husband, Everett Sr.; her husband, Robert; her daughter, Joy; and her many friends. She is survived by her children Ann and Everett Jr.; her grandchildren Tommy, Chrisy, Peter, Johnny, Heather, Holly, Emily, Caleb, Conor, and numerous in-law grandchildren that she would ask about frequently (especially Sheyenne who checked on her daily towards the end her journey on earth); and her 20+ great grandchildren.

Carol died 17 days short of her 90th birthday. She will be missed.
