Age 82 of Inver Grove Heights

Richard was born April 11th, 1943, in Minneapolis to Harriet and Wilford, and passed away after complications from surgery. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Douglas, Allan, and Augie. He will be greatly missed by his devoted and loving wife of 61 years, Sue; children, Jeff (Tonya), Randy (Reagan), Hollie (Tom) Hollaman, brothers-in-law, Brian (Annie) and Mike; sister-in-law, Judy Hughes (Grant); grandchildren, Nicole, Jason, Colton, Max (step-grandson); nieces, Kathy, Stephanie, Jenny, Tammy, Jeanah, Emily; nephews, Keith, Troy, Shawn, Kyle.

Richard was baptized and confirmed at Our Redemption Lutheran Church. Richard grew up in Minneapolis and attended Roosevelt High School, class of 1961. He was a driven entrepreneur starting at age 11, working multiple jobs, including a paper route. At age 18, he moved to New Orleans for a year and lived with his brother Allen’s family, working at Westinghouse. He moved back to Minnesota and met Sue in 1963. They married in 1964. From 1967 to 1976, they operated a Dairy Queen business before starting the next notable business, The Ice Man Dry Ice and CO2 Services. After selling that business and a couple of years of early retirement and travel, he got back in business, buying Twin City Marina. It was a great fit for him and his oldest son, Jeff. They expanded the business by starting Rivertime Boats, building houseboats, and custom boat buildings. The business is still in the family.

He was a proud and fun-loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was an adventurer, always anxious to see what was around the next corner. He and Sue traveled all over the United States and other countries. He loved and owned antique cars and was an MSRA member.  We owned many boats over the years and enjoyed boat trips down the Mississippi and the Inter Coastal waterways of Florida, Texas, and Louisiana, where they owned a fish camp (cabin) for 17 years.

Private family only service was held at Emanuel Lutheran, 70th & Babcock, with burial at Emanuel Cemetery, per Rich’s wishes.
