Velma was reunited in heaven with her loving husband Paul on June 6, 2018. Velma was the eldest of six children who were raised on a farm in North Dakota. Shortly after graduating from high school, she met Paul in Grand Marais, Minnesota. Thanks to the Air Force, she and Paul saw quite a bit of the world: Japan, Morocco, Italy, Texas, etc – with two small children in tow. After their military service and additional moves, Paul and Velma found themselves in Washington DC where Velma worked for the Social Security office. When Paul and Velma moved to Madison, SD, Velma became the founding executive manager for a new housing facility for the elderly. Eventually they moved to Sioux Falls where Velma worked at O’Gorman High School for a few years. After retirement and Paul’s death in 2006, Velma moved to Minneapolis. Wherever she lived, Velma always made sure that home was where the heart was. Her Mantra was Faith, Family, Friends and Flag. All through her life, Velma was the glue that kept her family together through letters, emails and packages. She is greatly missed here on Earth by her daughter, Paulette and son, Michael, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, two brothers, other relatives, and a multitude of friends. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Velma’s favorite charity, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
