Age 66 of Tacoma, Washington
Passed away from a stroke on April 27th, 2022. He passed peacefully with his longtime partner and spouse, Kilai Carpenter at his side.
Greg was born on February 6, 1956 in St Paul, Minnesota to Jerry and Lois Terhaar. He was also a 1974 graduate of South St Paul High School.
At school, Greg was known for his smile and laughter, along with his adventurous nature. He was endearingly known as “Egghead” to his friends and once spent a few moments hanging upside down over the lunchroom commons wall with those “good friends” having a firm hold of his ankles. He also once scaled the top of a neighborhood water tower, much to the dismay and angst of his mother and father (did he know we knew about it?). He was on the wrestling and chess teams and a yearbook staff member. His real passion, however, was collectables such as rare coins, precious alabaster statues and in later years, vintage Matchbox cars and action figures.
Shortly after graduation, he joined the Navy and travelled all over the Pacific as the ship’s night baker and chef. When stateside, he was stationed primarily in San Diego, California and Bremerton, WA. He and Kilai made their home in Seattle and then, upon retirement, Tacoma, Washington, along with their two dogs and cat.
Greg is preceded in death by his mother, Lois Lafavor Terhaar, and father, Jerome Henry Terhaar. Greg is survived by his partner and spouse of 32 years, Kilai Carpenter, his sisters Jeanne (David) Larson, Patty (Mark) Rosvold); nephew, Don (Jennifer) Lennartson along with their family Zackery and Zoey; nephew Patrick (Megan) Rosvold; and niece Cathryn Rosvold.
The memories we have are what we will always cherish and hold in our hearts as we say goodbye to Greg. We are thankful to all of you that have shared a hug, a memory or offered support to us over these years with him–all of which we want to extend our most sincere thanks.
A private, military burial will be held in Washington State in the coming months. Any cards or memorials may be sent to Pat (Terhaar) Rosvold and will be forwarded to Kilai to help with funeral expenses. Email Pat if you need her address: prosvold058@gmail.com
