Passed Away on June 20, 2016. Age 86 of Marine on St. Croix, Formerly of South St. Paul
Beloved Husband, Dad, Grandpa, Bapa and “Uncle Don”, with a steady confidence and genuine, down-to-earth manner, he was a role model for the everyday family man and was loved by all who knew him. He had an uncomplicated approach toward life and an ease with which he enjoyed its simple pleasures. Always light-hearted, he put those around him at ease with his unassuming demeanor and brought joy and levity to every occasion. “Don” played on many South St. Paul baseball and basketball town teams and was an accomplished athlete in his early years. He was selected to three consecutive fast-pitch softball All-State teams as a shortstop with Sweeney’s in the late ‘50’s and was ultimately inducted into the MN Fast Pitch Hall of Fame. After his playing days, he was a baseball umpire and basketball referee for hundreds of high school games in the 60’s and 70’s. At age 65, his cross-over dribble could still confound men half his age during weekly pick-up games in Marine on St Croix, where he and his beloved wife, Dolly, his bride of nearly 67 years, made their home since 1979. “Terrible” loved hunting ducks and pheasants with family and friends, was an inaugural member of Pheasants Forever, and was still afield with his son, grandson, great-grandsons and his eleventh lab, “Decoy”, this past fall. Preceded in death by parents, John and Martha Goral. Survived by his loving wife, Dolly; children, Merrisue (Dean) Soutor; Kathy; Don S. (Brenda); Gaye Lee (George) Kryzer; Rob (Naomi); 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Carol Foley; brother, Bill (Sandy); many nieces and nephews, loving relatives and great friends. Mass of Christian Burial Friday, June 24, 10:30 AM with visitation at 9:00 AM at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 749 – 6th Ave So, South St. Paul. Internment Oak Hill Cemetery.
