Zywiec, Robert Allen

Born on 9/22/37 and passed away peacefully on 12/31/20.  He is survived by brothers, Frank, Joe, Jim, and sister, Barbara, as well as Gloria Stefani; two sons, Robert Zywiec and grandchildren, Nicole and Bobby; William Zywiec, wife, Michele, grandchildren, William and (Samantha), and granddaughter, Sarah (Chris) and two great grandchildren Lola and Vinny. Preceded in death by brother, Dick.  Bob is also survived by his companion, Judy Sandal and her children Laurie, Greg, Jay, Chris, and their children.

Bob was born in St Paul, MN and graduated from South St. Paul High School.  It was in So. St. Paul where he chose to live and raise his sons.  He was very involved in the SSP youth hockey program and enjoyed watching and coaching his sons. He frequented the Minnesota High School hockey tournament every year.

Bob started a family business venture, which took him back to his family roots in farming. He started Zywiec’s Garden Center in Cottage Grove, MN in 1982. This work allowed Bob to be creative, having customers frequently request that he, himself, build their planter of choice. Bob was a very quiet man with a work ethic like no other, which stayed with him until his final breath.  Planting and gardening was his greatest passion, you could see his love for his craft in the countless number of planters and hanging baskets that he created, which spread joy and happiness to those who sought his work. When the business started doing a haunted experience, Bob let his creativity shine through in different ways, helping create sets and even participating as a haunter.

Even with Bob’s declining health, he still chose to show up at the Garden Center day after day.  This was his happy place and his employees were his family.  His brother Frank and son Bill were critical in his care over the last year.  Their help and support will always be remembered and is very much appreciated.

A celebration of life will be held in Bob’s honor this spring at Zywiec’s Garden Center. God bless you Bob, we will miss you.

“MOMisms” by Bernice Roberts

Shit.   Damn.  Double Darn.  Oh Dear.

I feel for you, but I can’t reach.

If you don’t behave, I’m going to flush you down the toilet.

 Asshole….with affection.

Only a face a mother could love, and she’d have to be blind.

 That really puckers my cooloe.

You make me so mad, I could kick you in the slats!

That’s a load of crap.

Ack da leber, bona parelli, double darn (anyone know how to spell this?)

Lovely curmudgeon

When punishing one of us, she would say “I had to bear the cross of raising you, so I insist you do this now (whatever the punishment was).”

Aszmann, Donna Jean

Donna Jean Aszmann of Cromwell, MN and Fort Meade, FL,  passed away Saturday, December 12, 2020, at the age of 84 from complications of a stroke.  She was born in St. Paul, MN, on August 8, 1936 to Nicolas and Eunice Kasel.  She will always be missed, remembered, and loved by her husband of 64 years Kenneth; children Deborah (Michael) Widstrom, Robert Aszmann, Janine Aszmann, Patrick (Paula) Aszmann, Anthony (Kelle) Aszmann; nine grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren.  Also survived by her loving sister Diane (Gerald) Meszaros; sisters-in-law Carol Alvorson and Linda (Roger) Reid and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Donna grew up in South St. Paul where she met the love of her life, Kenneth.  They were married on October 6, 1956.  After Kenneth’s stint in the Navy while stationed in Norfolk, VA, they briefly returned to South St. Paul before moving their young family to Eagan, MN, where they resided until retiring to Cromwell and Fort Meade in 1997.

Donna loved cooking and baking, gardening and canning, and passed those passions and skills on to the next generations.  She made sure her granddaughters knew “how much salt to put in the crock of sauerkraut.”  Her main focus in life were her husband and family and therefore loved and enjoyed the many, many family gatherings that were held over the years.  She would sit with a big smile on her face and watch the chaos unfold around her as only a large family can produce.  Bingo and golfing were favorite pastimes because they were spent with family and friends.  Most that met her, loved her as she almost never had a cross word for anyone.  She was the rock that the family leaned on and the glue that kept them together.   We will remember her forever for her quiet gentleness and loving spirit.

A family visitation will be held from 12 noon to 1pm with service following at 1 pm on Friday, December 18, 2020 at Roberts Funeral Home, 8108 Barbara Ave., Inver Grove Heights, MN.  Due to COVID restrictions and concerns for the health and safety of family and friends, please know that attendance while welcome, is unnecessary, though thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.  Private interment at Acacia Park Cemetery in Mendota Heights, MN.
